Principal Product Manager, CodeAI
About The Position
As the Principal Product Manager for CodeAI, you will partner with Google DeepMind (GDM) and the Director, Engineering CodeAI to lead the technical strategy for bringing frontier AI capabilities to enterprise-scale product development workflows. The mission is to frame and lead research and Applied AI efforts to improve Gemini for Google-scale product development workflows, bridging model breakthroughs with production-grade development agents and solutions that delight users and accelerate innovation across Google product areas. You will be part of a high-velocity organization responsible for coding-agent research and technologies, in active partnership with GDM, as well as evaluation and validation systems to support recursive self-improvement for model and product building at Google. The Core team builds technical foundations for Google’s flagship products, including developer platforms, product components, design elements, and infrastructure. It develops central solutions, breaks down technical barriers, and strengthens systems across Google to support safe, coherent user experiences and developer innovation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
- 15 years of product management experience at a technology-driven company, including experience driving zero-to-one products from concept to adoption.
- Experience leading and translating AI research into production-grade enterprise GenAI products or agents.
Nice To Haves
- Experience changing established, high-scale products with large installed bases while introducing disruptive new ideas, such as moving from a manually updated tool to an ambient, agent-native system.
- Experience building platforms and extensibility models, such as APIs, event hooks, or ecosystems, that enable other teams to build on the product.
- Experience shipping products powered by LLMs or AI agents.
- Experience experimenting with and launching high-value GenAI products, including hill-climbing for quality, fine-tuning/SFT, and agentic systems.
- Established presence and thought leadership in the AI/ML community, demonstrated through value delivered by high-impact research or high-value Applied AI products or agents.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the product outlook for landing recursive self-improvement at Google scale.
- Partner closely with Engineering, CodeAI teams, and DeepMind research teams to identify critical gaps in core intelligence capabilities, including LLMs, harnesses, memory, context engineering, and recursive self-improvement loops, and activate and execute research and development work to improve LLMs.
- Translate frontier capabilities into high-value products that professionals love, and establish a feedback flywheel to extract and upstream rich expert signal to GDM.
- Influence and inspire an organization of AI-native product builders by maintaining focus on rapid experimentation and iteration and identifying the biggest blockers to getting to AGI.
- Partner with Engineering and GDM to land research and value breakthroughs at Google scale through first-principles thinking.
