Principal Product Manager

MicrosoftRedmond, WA
$142,800 - $304,200Hybrid

About The Position

Microsoft Edge serves hundreds of millions of users who expect a browser that is fast, reliable, accessible, and trustworthy. The Edge Fundamentals PM team owns the horizontal, cross-cutting work that keeps the core browser healthy: quality and reliability, performance and efficiency, feature-health monitoring, and the user-experience improvements that drive long-term retention. We are hiring a Principal PM Manager to lead this team. You will set strategy and mission plans across planning cycles, define clear ownership and success metrics, coach a team of product managers, and partner deeply with engineering, design, and partner teams across Edge, Windows, and MAI to ensure the platform stays high-quality and performant at scale. Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond. Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50- mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/program management or software development OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year(s) people management experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 12+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development OR equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of product management experience, including 3+ years managing and growing PM teams.
  • Demonstrated success owning horizontal or platform-level workstreams (quality, performance, reliability, or growth/retention) for a large-scale consumer product.
  • Solid data fluency — comfortable defining metrics, reading telemetry, and using experimentation to drive decisions.
  • Track record of setting strategy and converting it into executed, measurable outcomes across multiple planning cycles.
  • Excellent cross-functional leadership and communication; able to influence engineering and partner teams without direct authority.
  • Experience with browsers, OS platforms, or other client/runtime software at consumer scale.
  • Familiarity with browser-quality domains: performance/memory efficiency, accessibility compliance, privacy tradeoffs, and globalization.
  • Experience standing up or operating feature-health / reliability monitoring systems and pre-merge quality gates.

Responsibilities

  • Set the multi-cycle strategy and mission plans for Edge Fundamentals, translating broad quality and platform-health goals into prioritized, measurable roadmaps.
  • Lead, coach, and grow a team of PMs; review execution quality, define DRIs, and ensure every workstream has clear scope, success metrics, and resourcing.
  • Own the browser quality, reliability, and service-maturity agenda — telemetry-driven quality loops, regression detection, pre-merge quality gates, backlog and AI-driven debt reduction, and test-coverage improvements.
  • Drive performance and efficiency initiatives (e.g., memory/efficiency features such as Sleeping Tabs, performance instrumentation and analysis), prioritizing correctly across the org and defining clear success criteria.
  • Guide the feature-health monitoring system — scope, success metrics, and resourcing — so regressions are caught and reliability improves before customers are impacted.
  • Act as the DRI-level owner for retention, aligning performance, reliability, and UX quality with customer-satisfaction and retention goals.
  • Steward accessibility, advise on privacy product-vs-risk tradeoffs, and coordinate globalization and Windows-integration asks with engineering.
  • Partner with Edge engineering, Edge India, MAI, Windows, design, and data-science teams; represent Fundamentals in org-wide planning and reviews.
