About The Position

Atlassian is hiring a Principal Product Manager for the Confluence Aggregation team. The team connects content from other systems to Confluence, preserves source permissions, organizes content for discovery, and keeps it current. This content also supports Confluence AI answers, so its coverage and quality directly affect whether teams can trust and act on those answers. The role owns how connected content becomes maintained knowledge in Confluence, from strategy and roadmap through launch and iteration. It addresses undefined problems involving what content is brought in, how it is structured, how freshness is managed, and how gaps or contradictions are surfaced. The product serves administrators who approve system connections, space owners responsible for current knowledge, and end users seeking answers. The Principal Product Manager establishes the quality bar for retrieval and AI-powered experiences, leads cross-functional execution, and brings recommendations to executive forums. The role also mentors product managers and raises the quality of product specifications and decisions across the team. Atlassian allows employees to work from an office, home, or a combination of the two, and can hire in countries where it has a legal entity.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of product management experience, including experience with a product where content, retrieval, or a model-powered experience was core to its value.
  • Experience taking a product from 0 to 1, from strategy through launch and beyond its initial disappointing metric.
  • Experience shipping large-language-model-powered features and owning their evaluations, including defining correct answers, building and maintaining test sets, identifying regressions, and deciding whether to ship or hold.
  • Fluency with unstructured and semi-structured content and how different content types behave when systems split, retrieve, and summarize them.
  • Strong AI product judgment, including evaluating alternatives for particular jobs, personas, and moments; understanding the user cost of incorrect outputs; minimizing the cognitive cost of suggestions; and retiring AI features that no longer provide value.
  • Understanding of retrieval-augmented generation and how content coverage and permissions affect answer trustworthiness.
  • Ability to protect administrator trust while balancing pressure to expand reach, and to understand the long-term cost of surfacing stale, incorrect, or unauthorized content.
  • Ability to align senior partners with competing priorities and write clearly enough to support timely executive decisions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience shipping integrations with Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Salesforce, or a data platform, including handling ongoing operational needs.
  • Background in knowledge management, enterprise search, or document management.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping and evaluation tools to test quality hypotheses before engineering implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Own the strategy and roadmap for how connected content is brought into Confluence, grouped, titled, summarized, and handled when it becomes stale or contradicts published content.
  • Define how unstructured and semi-structured inputs, including documents, spreadsheets, meeting transcripts, chat threads, and CRM records, are transformed into usable structures in Confluence.
  • Determine how content freshness and decay are managed, including which updates happen automatically, which require human confirmation, and how users can identify the difference.
  • Set and defend quality standards for retrieval, including source permission fidelity, accuracy, and latency; decide what should not ship and maintain that standard when timelines are at risk.
  • Own quality evaluations for large-language-model-powered experiences: define correct outputs, build test sets, detect regressions as models and content change, and determine when outputs are reliable enough to ship.
  • Determine where AI belongs in the product experience and how it should behave when wrong, while keeping suggestions low-cost to ignore and evaluating whether AI features continue to earn their place.
  • Drive execution across Engineering, Design, Data Science, Research, Marketing, Partnerships, and Security and Trust.
  • Bring clear product recommendations to executive forums.
  • Set the product bar, mentor product managers, and improve the quality of team specifications and decisions.

Benefits

  • The role may be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.
  • Atlassian offers health and wellbeing resources and paid volunteer days.
  • Atlassian offers a range of perks and benefits intended to support employees, their families, and engagement with local communities.
