About The Position

The Principal Product Designer role is within the Industry Solutions Engineering (ISE) team, a global engineering organization that collaborates directly with customers to leverage the latest technologies. The team jointly develops code for cloud-based solutions, working closely with customers' engineers, Microsoft product teams, partners, and open-source communities. The Principal Product Designer will define specific product needs based on user insights, ideate solutions, and create and develop design concepts and specifications to optimize the emotional and functional experience of products, software, devices, or services. This role involves collaboration with a cross-functional team of software engineers, technical program managers, and data scientists, working side-by-side with high-impact and strategic customers and their engineers to build innovative solutions. The team values working with a variety of technologies, solving business problems, contributing to open source, and collaborating with Microsoft product teams. Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 8+ years experience working in product or service design
• OR Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 6+ years experience working in product or service design
• OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems)
• Currently have, or have the ability to obtain Secret (Level II) screening from a duly authorized department or agency of the Government of Canada
• Ten (10) years of continuous Canadian residency, and must not have lived or worked outside of Canada for more than six (6) months during that time, unless Microsoft is satisfied that the requisite clearance can nevertheless be obtained within required timelines (for Secret security clearance)
• Ability to travel into the US to work with US customers

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 12+ years experience working in product or service design
• OR Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 8+ years experience working in product or service design
• OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems)
• 6+ years experience shipping products, services, or games and/or delivering to customers as a result of an end-to-end design process
• Enjoy travel and are comfortable with travel up to 25%

• Lead the production of visual designs while overseeing the creation of a variety of visual design documents
• Identify scenarios that will turn into interaction designs
• Direct your teams to improve product UX through the creation of interaction models while acting as a liaison between users and products
• Guide communication with cross-disciplinary teams across all stages of design and development
• Tell a compelling, convincing product story to a variety of audiences that influences buy-in from key stakeholders
• Lead collaboration with creative team members, program managers, and developers to define product features
• Collaborate with leadership and your team to deliver product design results
• Provide guidance to product designers and create clarity for stakeholders
