Pratt & Whitney’s Compression Systems Engineering (CSE) HPC Design group seeks a goal‑oriented, detail‑focused Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to support the F135 Base or ECU HPC Component Integrated Product Teams (CIPTs). The selected candidate will take leadership roles in complex, high‑priority tasks and directly support Integrated Product Team Leader (IPTL) and program managers.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and 8+ years of relevant experience, or Advanced degree with 5+ years of mechanical‑design experience
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum tools
  • Broad understanding of engine hardware, 2D drawings, MBD, and manufacturing methods
  • Experience with rotating hardware and airfoils
  • Advanced data‑management and processing skills
  • Ability to leverage AI tools for improved engineering results
  • Ability to work in fast‑paced environments with strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency with NX, Teamcenter, engineering standard work, SAP, Class I & II EC processes
  • ANSYS experience desired

Responsibilities

  • Develop innovative and technically sound design solutions that meet program schedule milestones.
  • Lead producibility investigations with manufacturing vendors, including EFPRs both remotely and on‑site.
  • Lead ECU Design Validation activities, supporting manufacturing coordination and module‑integration efforts.
  • Apply advanced 3D modeling tools to refine component‑ and module‑level designs.
  • Lead or support field‑incident investigations, including root‑cause analysis and corrective‑action implementation.
  • Develop serviceable limits through advanced data‑processing and cross‑discipline collaboration.
  • Participate in hands‑on, multi‑week engine tear‑downs at Tinker AFB.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary IPTs across design, structures, aero, HT&SF, manufacturing, quality, and other modules.
  • Lead or assist with safety‑risk analyses and risk‑mitigation planning; present technical results to customers and program management.
  • Mentor early‑career engineers within the IPT/CIPT and design organization.
  • Improve engineering efficiency using advanced data‑mining, automated tools, and AI.
