About The Position

BCG X is seeking a Principal (Forward Deployed AI Engineer) to join their rapidly growing engineering team and help build the next generation of AI solutions. This role involves partnering with clients across various BCG regions and industries on key topics such as climate change, enabling them to design, build, and deploy innovative solutions. The position also includes developing thought leadership, leading conferences, and taking a proactive role in shaping the strategy of BCG X and BCG overall. The ideal candidate is a builder with a strong foundation in AI/ML, including GenAI (LLMs, LangChain), and experience in either data engineering or modern full-stack development. They should be comfortable in client-facing roles, manage engagements, client relationships, and provide thought leadership. Responsibilities include applying software development practices, optimizing computational efficiency, and acting as an interface between business and tech for clients in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's, master's, or PhD in engineering or related field with 8+ years of relevant experience
• Proven experience architecting and deploying AI/GenAI solutions, including Agentic AI systems, at enterprise scale
• Experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs), including platforms such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or open-source models
• Proficient in Python and skilled in full-stack development using React, JavaScript, TypeScript, with experience in CI/CD pipelines
• Familiarity with the storage, manipulation, and management of relational, non-relational and streaming data structures
• Strong record of professional accomplishment and leadership, demonstrated ability to lead and manage projects and teams
• Proven ability to drive topics and make a commercial impact
• Strong communicator with the ability to guide non-technical stakeholders and contribute in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment
• Intellectually curious builders who are biased toward action, scrappy, and communicative.
• Comfortable in a client-facing role, manage engagements, client relationships, provide “thought leadership” to teams
• Experienced in guiding non-technical teams and consultants in and best practices for robust software development
• Motivated by a fast-paced, service-oriented environment and interacting directly with clients on new features for future product releases
• A natural problem-solver and intellectually curious across a breadth of industries and topics
• Have strong project management skills

Nice To Haves

• Experience building and deploying production systems on major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is a plus

Responsibilities

• Own the full analytics value-chain end to end: framing new business challenges, designing innovative algorithms, implementing, and deploying scalable solutions, and enabling colleagues and clients to fully embrace AI.
• Partner with clients in a variety of BCG regions and industries, and on key topics like climate change, enabling them to design, build, and deploy new and innovative solutions.
• Develop and deliver thought leadership in scientific communities and papers as well as leading conferences on behalf of BCG X.
• Take a larger and more proactive role in shaping the strategy of BCG X – and of BCG overall.
• Work closely with partners & managing directors to drive our company’s growth & business development.
• Develop and deliver thought leadership.
• Manage teams of AI scientists, engineers, designers.
• Apply software development practices and standards to develop robust and maintainable software.
• Optimize and enhance computational efficiency of algorithms and software design.
• Act as interface between business & tech for our clients.
