About The Position

Chronosphere, a Palo Alto Networks company, is seeking an experienced, product-driven engineer to help customers monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize systems at scale. The platform ingests and analyzes high-volume telemetry—including metrics, logs, traces, and events—to help customers understand system behavior, improve reliability, and reduce mean time to resolution across cloud-native environments. The engineer will design and build core systems for a rapidly scaling observability platform, working on distributed systems that ingest, store, query, and process massive volumes of telemetry data in near real time. The position calls for systems thinking, API design skills, and experience building reliable systems. The role is remote, with hybrid teams collaborating across geographies.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in one or more backend languages, such as Go, Java, Python, or Rust.
  • Experience using AI coding assistants, such as Cursor or Claude, in day-to-day software development.
  • Experience building and operating highly available systems in production.
  • Experience working with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Experience designing APIs, including REST, gRPC, or GraphQL.
  • Strong ownership and ability to independently own projects from inception to delivery.
  • Effective collaborative working style and willingness to contribute to a positive, supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build scalable backend services that process high-volume telemetry data.
  • Develop systems for ingestion, storage, indexing, and querying of time-series and event data.
  • Improve the performance, reliability, and cost efficiency of distributed systems.
  • Collaborate with frontend teams to design clean, efficient APIs.
  • Contribute to data modeling strategies for high-cardinality observability workloads.
  • Participate in architecture reviews and technical design discussions.
  • Improve system observability and reliability.
  • Mentor engineers and help raise engineering standards.
  • Help customers monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize their systems at scale.
  • Operate systems that process large-scale production traffic.
