About The Position

Chronosphere, a Palo Alto Networks company, is seeking a product-driven engineer to build the core systems behind its observability platform. The platform processes metrics, logs, traces, and events to help customers understand system behavior, improve reliability, troubleshoot production systems, and reduce mean time to recovery across cloud-native environments. The role focuses on highly scalable distributed systems that ingest, store, query, and process large volumes of telemetry data in near real time. It involves shaping platform architecture, collaborating with technical teammates and customers, and operating systems that process large-scale production traffic.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in one or more backend languages, such as Go, Java, Python, or Rust.
  • Experience using AI coding assistants, such as Cursor or Claude, in day-to-day software development.
  • Experience building and operating highly available systems in production.
  • Experience working with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Experience designing APIs, including REST, gRPC, or GraphQL.
  • Strong ownership and ability to independently manage projects from inception to delivery.
  • Effective collaborative working style and willingness to help build a positive, supportive team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build scalable backend services that process high-volume telemetry data.
  • Develop systems for ingesting, storing, indexing, and querying time-series and event data.
  • Improve the performance, reliability, and cost efficiency of distributed systems.
  • Collaborate with frontend teams to design clean, efficient APIs.
  • Contribute to data modeling strategies for high-cardinality observability workloads.
  • Participate in architecture reviews and technical design discussions.
  • Improve system observability and reliability.
  • Mentor engineers and help raise engineering standards.
  • Help shape the architecture of a rapidly scaling platform.
  • Collaborate with technical teammates and customers.

Benefits

  • Compensation may include restricted stock units and a bonus.
  • Employee benefits are referenced, but specific benefits are not listed in the posting.
