About The Position

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Principal Small UAS (sUAS) Electrical Engineer to join our team at Hurlburt Field, Florida. Qualified candidates must be U.S. citizens with a TS/SCI clearance. The successful candidate will provide electrical engineering expertise on a multidisciplinary team responsible for developing, integrating, and transitioning multiple different technologies for the Government Team Lead. In addition, duties will require acquiring technical knowledge of all key sUAS hardware/software systems to include remote flight control systems, weapons control, test telemetry, sensor systems, and instrumentation. Anticipate up to 15% travel, with surge periods of greater travel, primarily in CONUS.

Requirements

  • Minimum 8+ years of industry or government experience demonstrating and practicing knowledge, skills, and abilities in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience working with a mix of core electrical engineering fundamentals, to include: Analog and digital circuit design, Component selection and derating, Signal integrity and EMI/EMC awareness, Power systems, Embedded systems, Avionics integration, Sensors and payloads, RF and communications, Testing, evaluating, and reporting to include hardware-in-the-loop, developmental test, and operational test.
  • Proven experience in aviation system design, development, integration, and test.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience briefing technical content to senior leadership.
  • Strong customer service skills; being able to work with personnel across multiple disciplines and organizations.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Ability to work well in a cross-disciplinary team with other engineers and military operators.
  • Ability to apply expert knowledge and proactively work independently.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic, “tip of the spear” environment.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and adapt to evolving mission and technical requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • US Citizenship.
  • Must possess an active DoD Top Secret Clearance with SAP and SCI eligibility.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with open architecture frameworks and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) methodologies.
  • Experience with communication, datalink, sensor, radio frequency, electronic warfare, and sUAS technologies.
  • Integration of weapons systems, sensor, and C2 capabilities, including cross-platform interoperability.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and technical management for mission system applications.
  • Participate in key engineering integration meetings: Milestone design and technical reviews, Team Lead Meetings, Material Improvement Program Review Boards, Engineering and Crew Station Working Groups, Lead System Engineer Technical Engagements, Integrated Test Team Meetings.
  • Lead System Engineer Technical Engagements.
  • Integrated Test Team Meetings.
  • Support on-aircraft engineering integration activities.
  • On-aircraft integration and engineering test build events.
  • Knock down administrative and engineering barrier.
  • Raise issues to technical and programmatic POCs and/or leadership for decision/action.
  • Plan and schedule resources to support integration and test.
  • Report on status of ongoing integration and test.
  • Understanding of airworthiness criteria.
  • Conduct and support root cause analysis with enterprise stakeholders.
  • Contribute to systems engineering activities including requirements definition, architecture development, integration, and verification.
  • Support open architecture implementations and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) approaches.
  • Participate in platform integration and testing and verification of subsystems for performance and functionality.
  • Lead and support Government and industry teams through technical planning, design reviews, test reviews, and technical assessments.
  • Develop and deliver technical briefings to a wide range of audiences, including senior technical and leadership stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with U.S. Government and industry partner organizations to support joint mission capability development.
  • Promote efficiency, agility, and traceability in fast-paced engineering environments.
  • Lead integration of new, legacy, and GOTs hardware and software.
  • Manage system requirements and derived requirements to ensure the delivery of systems compatible with defined system architectures.
  • Support the resolution of action items from Configuration Control Board (CCB) meetings, design reviews, program reviews, and test reviews that require cross-discipline coordination.
  • Develop the methods, processes, and evaluation criteria by which the systems, subsystems, and work products are verified against their requirements.
