About The Position

The Principal Electrical Engineer is an individual contributor on Medtronic’s Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) Electrical System Design Team. The role contributes to all phases of product development—including definition, design, troubleshooting, characterization, and verification—for implantable pulse generators (pacemakers), implantable cardioverter defibrillators, implantable diagnostic devices, and external patient communicators, programmers, and monitors. The engineer is part of the R&D organization developing lifesaving technology. The position is based in Mounds View, Minnesota, in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area, and requires working onsite a minimum of five days per week. The engineer provides technical leadership on complex design programs and may lead teams of five to ten electrical engineers while serving as technical lead and liaison to program management. The role designs, develops, analyzes, and debugs analog and digital circuitry; integrates electronics, firmware, and mechanical designs; develops production test requirements and supports manufacturing test applications; and supports manufacturing sites with PCB and device assembly. It also involves creating test procedures and test environments, characterizing and verifying designs, decomposing system and product requirements, verifying compliance, and validating test environments, including method validation and non-product software validation. The engineer mentors junior engineers. The position requires a bachelor’s degree and at least seven years of relevant experience, a master’s degree and at least five years, or a Ph.D. and at least three years. The salary range listed for U.S. locations (excluding Puerto Rico and certain California locations) is $140,800 to $211,200, and the position is eligible for the Medtronic Incentive Plan. Medtronic describes a competitive salary and flexible benefits package.
