About The Position

The Principal, Document Standards & Quality owns the Document Quality System that enables AI and engineering teams to produce professional, usable documents. The role translates expert judgment about document quality into standards, reference documents, and measurable specifications that can be implemented and tested. It establishes formatting conventions for distinct document families, assesses AI-generated documents, creates gold-standard references, and develops a quality score in collaboration with engineering. The Principal also serves as the standards owner, adjudicating disputes, reviewing templates, and representing document quality in product and model-evaluation decisions. The position is part of LexisNexis Legal & Professional, a provider of legal, regulatory, and business information and analytics serving customers in more than 150 countries. The company is part of RELX and develops AI and advanced technology solutions for the legal market. The role offers flexible working hours. The U.S. national base pay range is $95,300–$158,800, with geographic differentials potentially applicable. The position is eligible for an annual incentive bonus.

Requirements

  • Deep expertise in professional document production, such as legal document production, publishing, technical or editorial design, or knowledge management, with a track record of setting standards.
  • Expert command of Word-style structure, including style-linked numbering, multilevel lists, sections, headers and footers, tables of contents and authorities, cross-references, and tracked changes.

  • Sound judgment across professional domains, including familiarity with legal and financial document conventions.
  • Experience in a large law firm, legal operations, or legal technology.
  • Experience with document automation, template systems, or design systems.

  • Review several hundred AI-generated documents, classify formatting defects by type, severity, and root cause, and report patterns.
  • Create human-crafted gold-standard reference documents for each document type and version them as test fixtures for AI and engineering teams.
  • Write explicit, testable document specifications, including rules for heading behavior, tables, orphaned headings, page breaks, and style-linked numbering.
  • Prioritize genuine document structure, including styles, numbering, and sections, over manual visual formatting.
  • Develop a Document Quality Score covering structural integrity, visual hierarchy, consistency, readability, template compliance, and editability.
  • Collaborate with engineering to make document quality measurable and automatable where possible and calibrate scoring against human expert judgment.
