About The Position

Oracle Media Services is hiring a Principal Core Infrastructure Engineer (IC4) to help lead Studio in the Cloud, a product line that enables studio-grade creative workloads on OCI. The individual contributor owns ambiguous features from design through production readiness, with emphasis on OCI Batch, Global Object Storage, customer-critical blockers, and operational maturity. The role leads end-to-end design and execution for critical features across OCI Batch, Global Object Storage, and related platform dependencies. It drives Global Object Storage acceptance and production readiness, strengthens observability and service operations, coordinates across engineering and customer-facing organizations, and translates customer adoption blockers into actionable plans. It also introduces practical AI-assisted engineering workflows and mentors engineers through technical direction and design reviews. The position involves developing and beginning to architect scalable, elastic distributed systems; defining scalability requirements; optimizing systems for high-throughput workloads; and designing for fault tolerance, availability, durability, and service-level objectives. Responsibilities also include performance and load testing, telemetry and alerting, correctness testing, replication and synchronization, production troubleshooting, operational support, security and compliance, and infrastructure automation and change management.

Requirements

  • Senior-level experience designing, building, and operating distributed cloud services, workflow orchestration systems, media platforms, GPU infrastructure, or high-scale production platforms.
  • Evidence of leading ambiguous initiatives through architecture, execution ownership, dependency management, and production readiness as an individual contributor.
  • Strong system design judgment across scalability, reliability, observability, operational safety, cost, and customer impact.
  • Hands-on experience improving service operations, including incident response, runbooks, reliability metrics, readiness reviews, or customer escalation processes.
  • Ability to influence without direct authority across engineering, product, operations, support, and infrastructure teams.
  • Clear written and verbal communication for architecture tradeoffs, executive-ready status, roadmap risks, and operational decisions.
  • Experience designing scalable, elastic distributed systems and optimizing systems for large-scale data processing and high-throughput requirements.
  • Experience with reliability design, including redundancy, replication, failover, handling network partitions, and techniques such as load-shedding, throttling, or rate-limiting.
  • Experience with performance/load testing, telemetry, KPIs, dashboards, alerting, correctness testing, or data replication and synchronization.
  • Experience with security controls, remediation, compliance documentation, infrastructure automation or IaC, and change management.
  • Ability to provide technical oversight, coordinate project work, solve moderately complex problems, mentor team members, and contribute to hiring.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using or introducing AI-assisted engineering workflows, developer-productivity automation, reporting automation, or SDLC improvements in a quality-conscious environment.
  • Background in media workflows, cloud rendering, creative production platforms, Batch systems, GPU scheduling, HPC, or adjacent infrastructure is strongly relevant.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end design and execution for critical Studio in the Cloud features across OCI Batch, Global Object Storage, and related platform dependencies.
  • Drive Global Object Storage acceptance and production-readiness workstreams by clarifying ownership, sequencing dependencies, and closing technical and operational gaps.
  • Strengthen operational posture through observability, runbooks, incident-prevention practices, readiness reviews, reliability metrics, and customer escalation discipline.
  • Partner across Oracle Media Services, OCI infrastructure, product, support, and customer-facing teams to remove blockers and align roadmap delivery with customer commitments.
  • Introduce practical AI-first engineering workflows to reduce reporting toil and improve delivery confidence while maintaining review, security, and quality practices.
  • Mentor engineers through design reviews, technical direction, execution planning, and examples of senior-level ownership in ambiguous environments.
  • Translate customer adoption blockers into actionable technical plans with clear risks, milestones, tradeoffs, and operational handoffs.
  • Communicate technical status, decisions, risks, and options to senior engineering, product, and operational stakeholders.
  • Lead development and begin architecting components of scalable, elastic distributed systems; define scalability requirements and optimize code and data paths for high-throughput workloads.
  • Design fault-tolerant, in-service-upgradable systems using redundancy, replication, failover, and partition-handling policies; apply load-shedding, throttling, and rate-limiting.
  • Design performance and load tests, correctness requirements, and complex validation scenarios such as fault injection and brownouts; implement data replication and synchronization techniques.
  • Define KPIs and telemetry and build dashboards and alerting to proactively monitor component and system health.
  • Diagnose, debug, and resolve production issues; mentor others in troubleshooting; maintain expertise in owned systems and meet operational-readiness expectations.
  • Serve in operational support rotations and guide incident response and root-cause investigations.
  • Implement security measures for multi-tenant environments, execute remediation plans, and maintain compliance documentation.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure automation, including IaC, and create and follow change-management plans for patching, updates, and rollbacks.
  • Coordinate moderately complex work, monitor timelines and deliverables, prioritize across projects, and adjust plans as resources or timelines change.
  • Collaborate across the organization, incorporate stakeholder and customer needs, and support inclusive collaboration.
  • Identify and resolve moderately complex problems, escalate critical issues with assessments and proposed solutions, and document problem-solving strategies.
  • Pursue learning and continuous improvement, coach junior team members, and participate in candidate interviews and hiring recommendations.
