About The Position

The Principal Core Infrastructure Engineer plays a hands-on technical role designing, implementing, and maintaining infrastructure that supports customers’ AI and machine-learning initiatives. The position works with customer technical teams, sales, and Oracle’s internal cloud services team to deploy solutions efficiently, securely, and at scale, while optimizing infrastructure performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. The engineer also troubleshoots proof-of-concept and production deployments. The role contributes to scalable, reliable, available, and secure distributed systems; supports operational troubleshooting and incident response; and maintains infrastructure automation and change-management practices. It also includes planning and executing work, collaborating across teams, solving problems, continually developing skills, and recommending process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and contribute to distributed-system components that support horizontal and vertical scaling, including use of distributed state-management tools.
  • Optimize code and systems for large-scale data processing and use data-plane platform components for large-scale data retrieval, storage, and processing.
  • Implement scalability requirements for assigned components and review team members’ implementations.
  • Implement performance and load testing.
  • Collaborate on fault-tolerant components that support in-service updates through redundancy, replication, and automatic failover.
  • Apply recovery-oriented computing principles and implement retry mechanisms, circuit breakers, and timeouts.
  • Implement tests and alarm configurations to proactively detect and address issues or failures.
  • Support failure recovery by drafting and executing runbooks and operational procedures.
  • Build and customize dashboards, telemetry systems, and alerts to monitor component health.
  • Design and implement functional requirements and tests for assigned features, including fault-injection and brown-out scenarios.
  • Implement data replication and synchronization techniques to maintain data integrity and availability.
  • Diagnose, debug, and resolve system-component issues and implement strategies to prevent service interruptions without customer maintenance windows.
  • Design and implement automation scripts and tools for operational troubleshooting.
  • Participate in operational support rotations, incident response, and root-cause investigations.
  • Apply security measures, including encryption and access controls, to protect data and applications in multi-tenant environments.
  • Implement security remediation plans and collaborate to maintain compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations, as well as up-to-date documentation.
  • Maintain automation scripts and tools, including infrastructure-as-code tooling, for cloud infrastructure management.
  • Follow change-management plans for application patching, updates, and rollbacks.
  • Track timelines with minimal supervision and ensure work aligns with project requirements; prioritize and adjust work as resources or timelines change.
  • Collaborate across teams, understand business, stakeholder, and customer needs, and build effective partnerships.
  • Identify and address standard and non-standard issues, analyze information from multiple sources, escalate more complex issues as appropriate, and contribute to knowledge sharing.
  • Build knowledge and skills, stay current with industry trends and best practices, seek and apply feedback and training, and share learning with team members.
  • Recommend updates to improve team processes, protocols, and workflows, seeking input on alternative approaches.
