The Principal Core Infrastructure Engineer leads the development and begins architecting components of scalable, elastic distributed systems. The role defines scalability requirements for owned components, optimizes code and data paths for high-throughput, hyperscale workloads, and uses data-plane platforms for large-scale retrieval, storage, and processing. The engineer designs fault-tolerant systems that support in-service upgrades through redundancy, replication, and failover. They address network partitions and unreliability using appropriate consistency, availability, load-shedding, throttling, and rate-limiting strategies, while meeting service-level objectives. The role establishes KPIs and telemetry, builds dashboards and alerts, and designs validation scenarios—including fault injection and brownouts—as well as replication and synchronization mechanisms that support correctness and durability. The position also involves proactive production troubleshooting, incident response, mentoring, operational readiness, security remediation, compliance documentation, and infrastructure automation. The engineer develops infrastructure-as-code and other tools, and follows change-management plans for safe patching, updates, and rollbacks. They coordinate moderately complex work, collaborate across the organization, contribute to process improvements and talent development, and coach junior team members. Oracle lists a U.S. hiring range of $114,600 to $234,600 per year. The role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral. Oracle describes a comprehensive benefits package for U.S. employees.
