Principal Cloud Engineer

Fidelity•Westlake, TX

About The Position

The Principal Cloud Engineer designs and delivers enterprise-scale cloud platforms across cloud-native and containerized environments. The role defines technical vision and engineering standards for observability platforms, including reliability metrics, monitoring practices, dashboards, alerting strategies, service-level indicators (SLIs), service-level objectives (SLOs), and telemetry frameworks. It architects and develops OpenTelemetry-based components and pipelines, and provides technical leadership in distributed systems architecture and data engineering to support AI and machine learning initiatives. The engineer analyzes telemetry patterns to inform performance, resiliency, capacity planning, and autonomous operations. The position also develops cloud-based software applications and application-level architecture, participates in architecture design teams, and creates testing, validation, programming, and documentation procedures. It provides technical solutions and estimates, evaluates development tools and methodologies, and advises senior management on technical strategy. The role mentors junior team members and promotes cloud-native best practices to advance scalable, reliable, and secure platform capabilities. A bachelor’s degree in a specified or closely related field and five years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree in a specified or closely related field and three years of relevant experience, is required. Fidelity states that it will not provide immigration sponsorship for this position. The company is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout; onsite expectations vary by role and location and may evolve. This transition does not apply to fully remote roles.
