Principal ASIC Engineer (Mixed-Signal)

Voyant Photonics•New York, NY
•$170,000 - $260,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Voyant Photonics is hiring its first Principal Mixed-Signal ASIC Engineer to establish and lead its custom IC development program. This foundational role will shape the ASIC strategy, select tools and processes, build a team, and deliver working silicon to support the company’s product roadmap. The role combines analog design, photonics, and high-volume manufacturing, with ownership from concept through production silicon. The position begins with more than 80% hands-on IC design work, with a path toward technical leadership and team management as the company grows. The role is based in NYC, preferred, with remote options available; relocation support is available for candidates who are open to relocating. Voyant builds silicon photonic chips for applications including chip-scale FMCW LiDAR for robotics and autonomy, and optical circuit switches for AI data centers. Its Midtown Manhattan lab and office combine optical tables, lab benches, electronics, and traditional office space. Work is hands-on and primarily in person, with flexible scheduling rather than a rigid 9-to-5. Some calls may start early or run late to accommodate customers across time zones. The company describes its environment as high-trust and high-accountability, with meaningful ownership and varied responsibilities. Catered lunch is provided daily at headquarters. Voyant Photonics is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace. It welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and does not discriminate based on protected characteristics.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in analog and mixed-signal IC design, with an 80/20 analog-to-digital focus.
  • A proven track record leading multiple tapeouts from concept to production silicon.
  • Deep expertise in low-noise analog circuit design, particularly transimpedance amplifiers or similar precision front-end circuits.
  • Knowledge of test-plan development for analog ASICs at OSAT partners.
  • Strong understanding of mixed-signal design, including ADCs, DACs, bias circuits, and power management.
  • Experience working in mature technology nodes and interfacing with advanced-node digital design.
  • Ability to deliver working silicon within 9–12 months.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working across disciplines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with photonic IC co-design or interfacing analog circuits with optical components.
  • Knowledge of advanced packaging techniques, including chiplets, heterogeneous integration, and 2.5D/3D.
  • Background in design for manufacturability.
  • Understanding of commercial IP ecosystems, build-versus-buy tradeoffs, selection, and license negotiation.

Responsibilities

  • Drive analog tapeouts from concept to production across technology nodes, including 130 nm and below and BCD processes.
  • Design ultra-low-noise transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs) targeting low pA/√Hz noise performance.
  • Develop mixed-signal circuits, including amplifiers, ADCs, DACs, and power-management blocks that interface directly with photonic ICs.
  • Establish the ASIC development environment by selecting and deploying EDA tools, defining design flows, and setting verification and validation standards.
  • Collaborate with photonics designers, systems engineers, and FPGA and digital design teams on co-design.
  • Provide HDL and architectural input to the external digital design partner and guide requirements; advanced-node digital place-and-route is not owned by this role.
  • Hire and mentor a small team of analog and digital IC designers.
  • Establish and lead the company’s custom IC development program, including ASIC strategy, tool and process selection, and delivery of working silicon.

Benefits

  • Relocation support for candidates open to relocating.
  • Catered lunch every day at headquarters.
