About The Position

RTX is hiring a Principal Acoustics Signal Processing Engineer to develop and optimize advanced algorithms and software for deployed undersea sensor systems. The role designs and evolves detection and classification algorithms, creates software architectures tailored to sensor capabilities, and optimizes algorithm execution on embedded and server-based hardware. The engineer supports real-time evaluation and hardware-in-the-loop testing in high-fidelity mission scenarios. The position offers exposure to undersea sensor systems, vehicle platforms, test methodologies, and end-user needs, as well as experience integrating real-time software with complex hardware environments. It also includes opportunities to guide architectural decisions and mentor junior engineers. This is an onsite role in Middletown, Rhode Island, and requires an active DoD Secret clearance before the start date. U.S. citizenship is required for security-clearance eligibility. Travel is required to support field testing, system evaluations, and customer integration events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline and 8 years of professional experience, or a master’s degree and 5 years, or a Ph.D. and 3 years.
  • Hands-on development experience using C/C++ and computer system design concepts to create real-time software.
  • Experience with MATLAB or similar programming for algorithm design, prototyping, and data analysis.
  • Professional experience applying core and advanced signal-processing concepts.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for field testing, system evaluations, and customer integration events.
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance required; active and transferable U.S. government-issued clearance is required before the start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required because only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with underwater acoustics, sonar systems, or marine-environment processing.
  • Experience implementing machine-learning techniques used directly within a Detection, Classification, Localization, and Tracking (DCLT) pipeline.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and evolve advanced detection and classification algorithms for deployed systems.
  • Design and implement complex software architectures to optimize sensor-system capabilities.
  • Support real-time evaluation and hardware-in-the-loop testing in realistic, high-fidelity mission scenarios.
  • Optimize algorithm architectures and execution frameworks for computational performance on embedded and server-based hardware.
  • Guide architectural decisions and mentor junior engineering talent.
