About The Position

RTX is seeking a Senior Acoustics Signal Processing Engineer to develop and evaluate advanced signal-processing capabilities for deployed undersea defense systems. The role involves designing and testing detection and classification algorithms, implementing software architectures that optimize sensor-system capabilities, and evaluating designs in real-time and hardware-in-the-loop tests using realistic, high-fidelity mission scenarios. The engineer will help optimize algorithms and execution frameworks for computational performance on embedded and server-based hardware platforms. The position offers exposure to undersea sensor systems, vehicle platforms, test methodologies, and end-user needs. The engineer will work on integrating real-time software with complex physical hardware and participate in architectural decisions across project lifecycles. This role is onsite in Middletown, Rhode Island, and requires an active DoD Secret security clearance and U.S. citizenship. Occasional travel for field testing, system evaluations, and customer integration events is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline plus 5 years of professional experience; or a master’s degree plus 3 years of professional experience; or a Ph.D. degree.
  • Hands-on C/C++ development experience creating software that implements signal-processing algorithms and executes in real time.
  • Experience programming in MATLAB or a similar tool for algorithm evaluation and data analysis.
  • Professional experience applying core signal-processing concepts.
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally for field testing, system evaluations, and customer integration events.
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required because only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with underwater acoustics, sonar systems, or marine-environment processing.
  • Exposure to machine-learning techniques and their application to Detection, Classification, Localization, and Tracking (DCLT).

Responsibilities

  • Design and test advanced detection and classification algorithms for deployed systems.
  • Assist with the design and implementation of software architectures tailored to optimize sensor-system capabilities.
  • Support real-time evaluation and hardware-in-the-loop testing in realistic, high-fidelity mission scenarios.
  • Optimize algorithm architectures and execution frameworks for computational performance on embedded and server-based hardware platforms.
  • Participate in architectural decisions and collaborate with engineering teams throughout complex project lifecycles.
  • Travel occasionally to support field testing, system evaluations, and customer integration events.
