About The Position

The Fonda VA Clinic is a community-based outpatient clinic that provides primary care and specialty health services, including laboratory services, mental health services, and prescriptions. The Physician - Internal Medicine will provide services within the scope of clinical privileges granted by the commanding officer and applicable duties provided in the basic contract. This role involves reviewing patient consults, conducting medical record reviews, and performing physical examinations to determine suitability for various assignments. The physician will also review electronic lab and imaging results, enter progress notes, use computerized physician order entry, and approve patient results electronically. A key responsibility is performing extensive analysis of service members' medical conditions from various evaluations and reports to assess fitness for duty, synthesizing information into clinical assessments and required documentation for the Medical Evaluation Board process. The role also includes consulting with service members, referring them for necessary primary, alternative, or specialty care, and performing Independent Medical Reviews as needed. Participation in assigned committees and administrative duties may also be required.

Requirements

  • One year of experience within the last two years as a physician or in an internal medicine setting OR have successfully completed the Family Practice or Internal Medicine residency program within one year of applying for this position.
  • Must be board certified OR board eligible in Internal Medicine.
  • Must have and maintain a current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.
  • Must have and maintain BLS through AHA.

Responsibilities

  • Review patient consults, conduct medical record reviews, and provide physical examinations to determine suitability for isolated, remote, overseas, or operational assignments for referred personnel.
  • Review electronic lab, imaging, consults, and progress note reports daily.
  • Enter progress notes for each visit and/or patient contact.
  • Complete electronic clinic reminders.
  • Use computerized physician order entry (CPOE) and approve patient results via electronic signature.
  • Perform extensive analysis of service members' medical condition from a wide spectrum of medical evaluations, reports, and therapeutic plans from disparate specialties.
  • Integrate findings into a cohesive clinical assessment on how they affect fitness for duty.
  • Synthesize requisite documents, such as the narrative summary, for the Medical Evaluation Board process.
  • Provide appropriate consultation with each service member.
  • Refer service members for adjunctive primary, alternative, and/or specialty care required to diagnose or treat their medical condition.
  • Perform Independent Medical Reviews (IMR) as needed upon request of the patient.
  • Participate in assigned committee and/or administrative assignments.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the normal duties of a physician as directed by the Commanding Officer.
