Preventive Maintenance Technician
About The Position
U-Haul is seeking a Preventive Maintenance Technician to maintain its fleet of Ford and GMC trucks. The technician uses U-Haul’s proprietary technology to assess and care for field vehicles. U-Haul provides tools and support, and offers training through its Technician Training Program, including classes from Ford, GMC, and U-Haul. The role may suit candidates entering the industry as well as those with vehicle repair experience. The work involves manual labor and requires working safely and remaining alert. Protective clothing or equipment—such as masks, safety shoes, goggles, gloves, or shields—may be required. The role requires lifting at least 50 pounds, with or without assistance, and frequent movement, including standing, sitting, and moving beneath equipment. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship. U-Haul states that it does not hire or re-hire nicotine product users in Florida and certain other states.
Requirements
- Driver’s license.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to work both as part of a team and individually.
- Regular attendance.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
- Ability to work safely and remain alert; protective clothing or gear may be required.
Nice To Haves
- Vehicle repair experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Secure trucks on lifts and ramps.
- Lubricate suspensions, perform oil changes, and replace minor parts.
- Perform tire and brake maintenance.
- Occasionally road-test vehicles.
- Use a proprietary electronic pre-inspection checklist.
- Assist in additional areas as necessary, following the directives and guidance of a supervisor.
