The technician identifies potential machine component failures, completes required safety inspections and operator checklists in accordance with company policy, and communicates results to customers. The role includes preparing a service truck with required parts and equipment; inspecting, servicing, testing, and recalibrating equipment; and using hand and power tools, meters, measuring devices, computers, and lifting aids. Work may involve climbing onto, underneath, or inside vehicles and equipment; disassembling and reassembling components; handling fluids and cleaning parts; changing oil and filters; and servicing engines, transmissions, fuel systems, belts, coolants, and hoses. The technician may also train operators and complete warranty paperwork. Field activities require driving a service vehicle to customer locations, sometimes for extended periods, and communicating by telephone to receive instructions and provide service information. The position requires independent work with minimal supervision, customer service skills, and the ability to document repair activities on customer work orders. Duties may include other similar assignments requested by a supervisor.
