About The Position

The Extrusion Saw Operator at Iowa Aluminum is responsible for operating and maintaining the saw equipment used in the extrusion process. This role ensures the precise cutting of extruded metal profiles according to specified lengths and profiles, maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the saw in an effective and cost-efficient manner while upholding quality and safety standards.
  • Perform the required preventive maintenance (PM) checks on the saw daily to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Verify order lengths and die profiles against work orders before operations.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of materials for any defects or imperfections post-cut.
  • Identify and scrap any defective metal to maintain quality standards.
  • Responsible for reporting any equipment malfunctions to maintenance staff.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to support a safe and efficient production environment.
  • Accurately position guides and adjust saw stops according to cutting specifications.
  • Continuously monitoring of saw cut position.
  • Regularly check and maintain saw blades, lubrication systems, chip collectors.
  • Oversee the stacking equipment to ensure materials are properly aligned and stored in racks according to weight and balance standards.
  • Develop and implement rack setups that protect materials from damage during processing.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) while operating machinery.
  • Participate in safety and job training sessions as required.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Manage scrap materials by cutdown and disposing of scrap.
  • Keep accurate track of aluminum pieces scrapped at the press finish saw.
  • Actively collaborate with the press operators, quality technicians, and stretcher operators to ensure a cohesive production process.
  • Support team efforts in troubleshooting and problem-solving to enhance overall operational efficiency.
  • Assist with log loading, scrap dumping, tooling changes, and sample cutting during downtime.
  • Provide training and assistance to new team members or operators as needed.
