About The Position

The Press Operator 1 sets up, adjusts, operates, and maintains single- or multi-color offset presses. The role performs press make-ready tasks, including hanging plates or installing cylinders, checking plates and cylinders for imperfections and image positioning, preparing blankets, and adjusting tension and register. The operator makes color corrections and press adjustments before and during production to meet quality specifications. The position also involves cleaning, lubricating, and maintaining the press, making minor repairs, replacing worn or broken parts, and performing manufacturer-recommended periodic maintenance.

Requirements

Knowledge of offset printing procedures, materials, equipment, and safety requirements sufficient to perform assignments.
Ability to read and understand job specifications to determine press setup and materials needed.
Knowledge of press capabilities to select appropriate press use and determine corrective adjustments needed for efficient operation.
Knowledge of the packing pressure needed to obtain proper printing pressure for the job.
Skill using a micrometer to mount and align printing plates correctly.
Skill in routine operational maintenance and minor equipment repairs.
Ability to adjust the feeder and feed board, including suctions and blast, front and side guides, and head-stop timing.
