About The Position

The Intercontinental St. Paul Riverfront hotel is proud to be a premier destination in Saint Paul. Centrally located and set high above the Mississippi, our downtown hotel truly connects our guests with all St. Paul has to offer while we provide them with a luxurious stay. Our team members are loyal and dedicated, taking pride in providing our guests with a comfortable, memorable experience. We are seeking a Prep/Line Cook to join our team. Our Line Cook is responsible for preparing food items in accordance with production requirements and quality standards while maintaining a safe and sanitary work environment. Line Cook duties will consist of assisting the Executive and Sous Chef with their daily tasks. A successful candidate will play a key role in contributing to our customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • 2 years of culinary experience is preferred
  • Scheduling flexibility is required - must be available weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday) & holidays. (work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel)
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with many types of personalities
  • Must exemplify a positive, outgoing and professional demeanor
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to assess customers' needs, meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of overall customer satisfaction
  • Comfortable multi-tasking and can thrive in a high stress, fast-paced environment
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Able to speak, read, write and understand English
  • Able to perform all essential duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation

Responsibilities

  • Prepare menu items while exemplifying a positive demeanor
  • Inspect and clean food preparation areas, such as equipment and work surfaces, or serving areas to ensure safe and sanitary food-handling practices
  • Ensure food is stored and cooked a correct temperature by regulating temperature of ovens, broilers, grills and roasters
  • Ensure freshness of food and ingredients by checking for quality, keeping track of old and new items, and rotating stock
  • Start food items that are prepared ahead of time, making sure not to over prepare estimated needs
  • Check pars for shift use, determine necessary preparation, freezer pull, and line set up. Not any out-of-stock items or possible shortages
  • Prepare food of consistent quality following recipe cards and production and portion standards
  • Portion, arrange and garnish food and serve food to servers and/or bartenders
  • Observe and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling or piercing them with utensils
  • Return all food items not used on next shift to designated storage areas, being sure to cover/date all perishables
  • Operate, maintain and properly clean deep fryer, broiler, stove, steamer, food processor, mixer, slicer, oven, steam table, tilt kettle, wood-fired pizza oven and flat-top grill
  • Other duties as assigned by management
