About The Position

Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement, a community-based non-profit organization offering comprehensive services to the youth, adults, seniors, immigrants and families of Western Queens, is dedicated to holistic family health and combating health disparities as integral to our mission “to build and strengthen underserved communities and act as a catalyst for change.” As part of our efforts to ensure health equity and child and maternal health in our community, Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement (Riis Settlement) is working in partnership with the Public Health Solutions (PHS) to recruit and hire a Pregnancy and New Parent Coordinator. The Pregnancy and New Parent Coordinator will serve as the main source of information and support for pregnant and newly parenting individuals and families in and around Queensbridge Houses and the Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement. They will provide individual and group-based support, with guidance and support from the Public Health Solutions Queens Healthy Start team. Topics will include prenatal health, breastfeeding, postpartum health, and reproductive health to improve health outcomes for pregnant persons, new parents, and their children.

Requirements

• Must be vaccinated and be able to provide documentation of vaccination status
• High School diploma/GED with at least 2 years relevant experience
• Outgoing personality and comfort doing community outreach and connecting with community members in person and through social media
• Interest in and commitment to Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement mission
• Respect for the rights of individuals to make their own decisions about the services they receive
• Ability to communicate, respect, and work with individuals from a variety of socioeconomic, cultural and religious backgrounds
• Computer literate, including basic use of Excel spreadsheets for data tracking.
• Strong verbal and written communications skills
• Ability to work both independently and cooperatively to meet the objectives of the program

Nice To Haves

• Associate’s Degree preferred
• Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish)
• Experience working with pregnant or newly parenting individuals and families and basic knowledge of maternal child health issues or personal lived experience as a parent

Responsibilities

• Serve as a connection between Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement, NYCHA Queensbridge Houses, and Public Health Solutions
• Provide basic prenatal, postpartum, and infant care education to prenatal patients and people of childbearing age both virtually and in person.
• Conduct and document prenatal and postpartum assessments, and screen and refer individuals to Queens Healthy Start services.
• Assist with data collection to measure service and referral connections and outcomes.
• Plan and participate in community events that promote and educate about maternal child health
• Identify community resources for health education resources and/or services.
• Other duties as assigned.
