About The Position

The Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) is seeking qualified candidates for a Pre-Primary Lunch & Bus Ground Supervisor position. The SRCE is part of Nova Scotia's public education system, established to support student learning, achievement, well-being, and success. With approximately 1,166 employees, the SRCE operates 20 schools and 14 pre-primary program locations, serving around 5,948 students and 375 pre-primary children. The position is within the CUPE Local 955 job classification and has a worksite in East Richmond, with a schedule of 3 hours per day. Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to provide personal and physical care to students
  • Current certification in First/CPR or willing to obtain prior to employment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must comply with SRCE policies and procedures
  • Experience working with children or youth in a professional or volunteer capacity

  • Possess an in-depth understanding of child growth and development and demonstrated knowledge and experience using a play-based pedagogy and child-centered, developmentally appropriate practices
  • Ability to translate theory and best practices into action in early childhood settings
  • Experience working with children and families with diverse cultural backgrounds, experiences, and developmental needs
  • Ability to support inclusive and responsive early learning environments that support the diverse and special needs of all children
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision for students before and after school, during lunch and/or noon hour break for such times as are required and indicated by the principal or designate.
  • Provide supervision to students getting on or off the bus before commencement of school and after school is dismissed.
  • Report to the principal or designate any problem that might occur during the time of supervision.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
