About The Position

The Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) is seeking qualified candidates for a Pre-Primary Lunch & Bus Ground Supervisor position. This role involves providing supervision for students before and after school, during lunch breaks, and assisting them with boarding and disembarking school buses. The SRCE is committed to supporting student learning, achievement, well-being, and overall success within safe, equitable, and inclusive environments. The Centre operates 20 schools, serving approximately 5,948 students and 375 pre-primary children across four counties in northeastern Nova Scotia.

Requirements

• A High School Diploma or equivalent
• Ability to provide personal and physical care to students
• Current certification in First/CPR or willing to obtain prior to employment
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Must comply with SRCE policies and procedures
• Experience working with children or youth in a professional or volunteer capacity

• Possess an in-depth understanding of child growth and development and demonstrated knowledge and experience using a play-based pedagogy and child-centered, developmentally appropriate practices
• Ability to translate theory and best practices into action in early childhood settings
• Experience working with children and families with diverse cultural backgrounds, experiences, and developmental needs
• Ability to support inclusive and responsive early learning environments that support the diverse and special needs of all children
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision for students before and after school, during lunch and/or noon hour break for such times as are required and indicated by the principal or designate.
• Provide supervision to students getting on or off the bus before commencement of school and after school is dismissed.
• Report to the principal or designate any problem that might occur during the time of supervision.
• Other related duties as assigned.
