About The Position

The mandate of Community Recreation & Cultural Programs is to build an inclusive, vibrant, and creative city, unique in identity, and rich in culture. The Service provides strategic vision and innovative leadership in managing customer centric sports and recreation venues and programs, including the management of facilities and/or land for the delivery of indoor and outdoor recreation programs and services, and fosters an environment in which Ottawa’s arts, heritage, festival and event sectors can evolve sustainably. You are responsible for providing logistics and equipment support to events at a City facility to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and smooth event experience for the client, stakeholders and all participants, including overseeing the activities at the facility, opening, closing, setup and take down, liaising with other staff, contractors, and external clients to ensure a positive rental experience, and ensuring activities are in accordance with relevant legislation, corporate/departmental policies, and service delivery standards. Performs administrative functions related to the planning, execution and follow up of events.

Requirements

  • Completion of 1 year community college program in Event Planning or a related field
  • Minimum of 1 year of demonstrated experience supporting event activities, planning or programming in a recreational or related environment.
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates
  • AODA Customer Service/IASR Training
  • Event planning and execution protocols, practices, and techniques
  • Relevant industry regulations/legislation
  • City of Ottawa corporate and departmental policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.
  • Ability to work in a team setting or independently
  • Organized, efficient, proficient at multi-tasking
  • Excellent customer services
  • Ability to provide guidance and coaching to volunteers, staff and event staff on the use of facility equipment and tools
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to take and give directions/instructions
  • Must possess excellent public relation, leadership, communication and organizational skills
  • Experience with audio/visual equipment such as microphones and projectors
  • Ability to problem solve and make decisions when needed
  • Works well under pressure
  • Physically able to lift up to 50lbs
  • Able to stand on feet for extended periods of time
  • Able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.

  • Knowledge of technical techniques and practices is an asset
