Requirements

  • Possession of a current Louisiana Practical Nurse license, a temporary permit, or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state.
  • Authorization for the HR Office of DPS&C-Corrections Services to contact prior employers to check references under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA).
  • Official documentation for any degree, certificate, special license, or DD-214 must be verified prior to hire.
  • Accompanying transcript for verification if qualifying experience is based on college credit/college hours.

Responsibilities

  • Administers and documents medications in accordance with physician orders, nursing protocols, and facility policies, ensuring accuracy, safety, and accountability.
  • Prepares, organizes, and assists with multidisciplinary clinics, including general practice, gynecology, dental, dermatology, and psychiatric clinics.
  • Supports providers during examinations and procedures by preparing equipment, positioning patients, and maintaining sterile technique.
  • Conducts routine patient rounds to observe, assess, and document patients’ physical conditions, behaviors, and responses to treatment.
  • Identifies changes in health status, ensures continuity of care, and communicates findings promptly to supervising medical staff.
