About The Position

The Engineer 1, 2, or 3 - Ventilation role at the East Boulder Mine in McLeod, MT, operates on a 5x2, 4x3 schedule with 9-hour days. This position is responsible for maintaining and managing the mine's ventilation system, ensuring compliance with standards, policies, procedures, and mine legislation regarding contaminants and gases. The role involves conducting ventilation surveys, participating in emergency responses, performing simulations to optimize the ventilation system, and incorporating smart technology for efficiency improvements. The engineer will also be responsible for planning and communicating ventilation projects, providing training to the workforce, and collaborating with various mine departments for continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Leadership qualities including character, teamwork, communication, business sense and vision.
  • Familiarity with mine ventilation principles.
  • Strong computer skills in AutoCAD, Excel, and Word.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of MSHA regulations.
  • Proven ability to work within a team-based environment.
  • Working knowledge and experience with mine modelling software.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of cost and schedule variance.

  • Working knowledge of ventilation modelling software.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and manage the Ventilation system at the Stillwater Mine - primary and secondary.
  • Ensure adherence to standards, policies, procedures and to mine legislation in regard to contaminants and mine gases.
  • Ensure ventilation surveys including air quality, volumes and pressure occur, data compiled and presented to workforce and management every quarter.
  • Participate in emergency responses in the event of a mine fire.
  • Perform ventilation simulations and optimize the mines ventilation system including leakage mitigation, infrastructure improvement, etc.
  • Perform ventilation simulations and complete a write up for designed development and production working areas.
  • Incorporate smart technology to improve mine ventilation efficiencies.
  • Ensure ventilation projects modelled, planned, scheduled, and communicated in a timely manner.
  • Provide annual refresher training to the workforce- coordinate the preparation and presentation.
  • Trouble shoot and diagnose problems swiftly.
  • Work closely with mine planning, survey, geology, maintenance and operations to ensure continuous improvement of mine ventilation.
