About The Position

This is a National Guard Title 5 Excepted Service position for a Powered Support Systems Mechanic (Title), Position Description Number T6323 000, and is part of the FL HQ 101 AOG, National Guard. The role involves installing, inspecting, and performing modifications and repairs to electrical power support systems, including electrical power plants and power distribution equipment. The mechanic will also inspect contractor-installed equipment for deficiencies, repair components such as generators, voltage regulators, governors, starter motors, fuel pumps, fuel lines, and oil pumps. Responsibilities include operating manual and remote switches, circuit breakers, and rheostats on various automatic transfer switches, switchgears, and power distribution panels to control and distribute electric power. The role also requires adjusting generator cycling and synchronization to meet electrical load demands and performing fabrication to modify equipment for local conditions.

Requirements

  • Experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of mechanical maintenance work.
  • Ability to read and use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams and schematics.
  • Skill in the use of equipment and hand tools used in troubleshooting, testing, and repairing equipment.
  • At least 18 months specialized experience or training removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components, and accessories.
  • Experience which provided working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to powered support equipment and systems.
  • Skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments.
  • Experience which provided working knowledge of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships.
  • Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufacturers' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must be a US citizen.

Responsibilities

  • Install, inspect, and perform modifications and repairs to electrical power support systems such as electrical power plants and power distribution equipment.
  • Inspect and check equipment newly installed by the contractor to determine operating deficiencies.
  • Repair components such as generators, voltage regulators, governors, starter motors, fuel pumps, fuel lines, and oil pumps.
  • Operate manual and remote switches, circuit breakers, rheostats, and other controls on a variety of automatic transfer switches, switchgears, and power distribution panels to perform necessary electric power control and distribution functions.
  • Adjust cycling and synchronization of generators to meet electrical load demand, energizing and de-energizing circuits to control distribution of electric power to busses and feeder circuits.
  • Perform fabrication to modify equipment to fit local conditions.
