About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to operate, inspect, maintain, and repair electrical power production equipment and associated components, electrical distribution equipment, diesel, gasoline, and/or multi-fuel engines, and various other Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE).

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance
  • The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle up to GVW of 37,300 pounds(unloaded) to 49,900 pounds (loaded) with 3-4 forward gears backing gears, air brakes, and attachments
  • Requires ability to possess or be able to obtain the appropriate licenses or authorizations to work on flight line and associated areas
  • Position may require the employee to operate a forklift up to 15,000-pound capacity to move heavy power support equipment
  • Position may require EPA refrigerant recovery certification.
  • Position may require employee to support mobility/deployment exercises
  • Position may require employee to meet all task qualifications in accordance with AGE Career Field Education and Training Plan.
  • Must have the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth
  • This is-a-Drug testing position.
  • The-employee is subject to-Random Drug Testing.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program
  • Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
  • Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Group.
  • Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
  • The screen out element for this position is Ability to perform the duties of a POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS without more than normal supervision.
  • Knowledge of principles of electricity (AC/DC), solid-state circuitry, and safety rules and regulations pertaining to AGE powered support systems.
  • Knowledge of the theory and operation of internal combustion diesel, gasoline and gas turbine engines associated with AGE equipment.
  • Knowledge or/and skill in safely operating large vehicles such as bobtails, flatbed trucks, etc. Operate vehicles on flight line and maintenance facilities at slow speeds near personnel and aircraft.
  • Skill in manipulating vehicles with heavy loads, including starting, stopping, and backing.
  • Ability to drive safely, interpret and apply instructions and other guidelines required for flight-line deicer truck operation and operations of other vehicles.
  • Knowledge of technical practices associated with repair and maintenance of Aerospace Ground Equipment; hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, refrigeration, heating, liquid/gaseous oxygen and nitrogen and mechanical systems.
  • Skill in reading, interpreting, and using wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, technical orders, technical publications, and similar guides associated with AGE equipment.
  • Ability to use and maintain tools, measuring and test instruments, and related equipment needed to repair, maintain, and troubleshoot Aerospace Ground Equipment.
  • Ability to understand and apply shop procedures, policies, written and oral instructions, and directives sufficient to provide training to others.
  • Ability to adhere to regulations, directives and polices governing the Air Force and Foreign Object Damage Program (FOD).
  • Knowledge of Quality Assurance Program and flight line operations.
  • Knowledge of regulations, procedures, and policies related to records maintenance and the documentation of maintenance actions.
  • Performs work that involves frequent bending, reaching, crouching, standing, and arm movement.
  • Sometimes must work in awkward positions or cramped areas.
  • Must frequently lift and carry items weighing up to about 40 pounds and lift heavier items using jacks, hoists, or helpers.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects, troubleshoots, performs modifications and repairs to powered and non-powered Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE).
  • Inspects and checks equipment to determine operating deficiencies.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on powered and non-powered AGE in accordance with technical data.
  • Operates aircraft deicer trucks in accordance with established procedures to assist in the deicing of home station, transient and sometimes TDY aircraft.
  • Performs major repair, replacement, and overhaul of powered AGE components such as diesel, gasoline, or gas turbine engines, and mechanical and electrical accessories of engines.
  • Utilizes safety practices, procedures, follows established safety rules and regulations, and maintains safe and clean work environment.
  • Operates other vehicles and equipment such as AGE bobtails, flatbed trucks, shop tugs, plow vehicles, etc. to transport ground equipment (powered and non-powered) between flight line and maintenance facilities as well as snow removal duties.
  • Complies with Consolidated Tool Kit (CTK) program and maintains supply discipline.
  • Adheres to all regulations, directives and policies pertaining to the CTK and supply program.
