About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to install, operate, inspect, maintain, and repair electrical power production equipment and associated components, electrical distribution equipment, diesel, gasoline, and/or multifuel engines, and aircraft arresting systems.

  • If authorized, PCS will be paid IAW JTR and AF Regulations. If receiving an authorized PCS, you may be subject to completing/signing a CONUS agreement.

  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period. Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends,and/or holidays. Emergency overtime may be required.
  • Performs work that involves frequent bending, reaching, crouching, standing, and arm movement.
  • Sometimes must work in awkward positions or cramped areas.
  • Must frequently lift and carry items weighing up to about 40 pounds and lift heavier items using jacks, hoists,or helpers.
  • This position may be designated as Mission-Essential based on local conditions. Mission essential personnelreport for duty at normal times when the base is closed or delayed reporting, and remain on duty during phased orearly release.
  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license is required for the position.
  • This is a designated drug tested position.
  • Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Family.
  • Screen out element: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.
  • Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.
  • Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
  • Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading)
  • Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
  • Knowledge of Materials
  • Trouble shooting
  • Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, inspects, and performs modifications and repairs to electrical power support systems such as electrical power plants and power distribution equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on electrical power support systems.
  • Performs major repair, replacement, and overhaul of power support system components such as diesel, multi fuel, or gas turbine engines, and electrical accessories of engines.
  • Troubleshoots electrical power support systems such as electrical power plants and power distribution equipment.
  • Maintains, inspects, repairs, diagnoses, and modifies aircraft arrestor barrier units.
  • Maintains records and documents actions.
  • Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
  • May be required to train/guide lower-graded (or other trades) military/civilian employees.
