About The Position

Kimley-Horn's Boca-Delray, Florida (FL) office is seeking a Power Studies Engineer with 6+ years of experience to join their Electrical Renewable Energy team. The Power Studies Engineer will act as a technical expert in the design, analysis, and optimization of electrical power systems, with a focus on serving clients within the power delivery and renewable energy sectors. This is not a remote position.

Requirements

  • 6+ years’ experience as an Electrical Engineer for an engineering firm or EPC
  • 1+ years' project management experience
  • General understanding of engineering and energy systems
  • Load Flow, Coordination, Short Circuit, and Arc Flash studies basic theory and methodology
  • Proficiency using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (AutoCAD)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work and manage several project teams concurrently
  • The ability to work independently or in a team environment effectively
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment

Nice To Haves

  • PE certification or path to move towards certification is preferred
  • CYMCAP, SKM, ETAP, EMTP-RV, PSS/E, PSCAD, WinIGS, or CDEGS experience preferred
  • Understanding or willing to learn, the NEC 2020 and IEEE standards and keep up with emerging technologies

Responsibilities

  • Support the power electrical team to analyze systems, create software models, and write reports for power delivery or generation projects
  • Assist with project design, specifications, and plans support
  • Review work with quality in mind to confirm compliance with Kimley-Horn quality standards
  • Perform studies which may include Arc Flash, Short Circuit, and Coordination studies using ETAP or SKM; Load Flow / Reactive Power Analysis; Thermal Ampacity studies using software like AmpCalc or CYMCAP; Grounding studies using WinIGS, CDEGS, or SKM Ground Mat; Transient studies using PSS/E, PSCAD, or PSLF; Harmonic studies using ETAP or transient software; Relay setting development using SEL AcSELerator
  • Partner with the electrical team to create calculations and drawings for power delivery and/or renewable energy projects
  • Continually gain knowledge in industry
