About The Position

This role supports the design and integration of power conversion equipment for a next-generation submarine power distribution system with electric drive. The engineer will be responsible for analysis, modeling, and simulation of power regulation control algorithms using a specialized software framework. This position involves certification and future field changes for shipboard equipment, requiring the ability to understand technical specifications and oversee vendor designs for bi-directional, multi-stage power electronic cabinets. Collaboration with a software development team on government furnished equipment operating and control software is also a key aspect of this role. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly motivated, and capable of learning software designs and analyzing data using LabView and MATLAB Simulink.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering
  • 0 – 4 years experience
  • Knowledge of power electronic devices, inverter and converter conversion circuits, switching pulse width modulation techniques, and voltage/current feedback regulation controllers is required.
  • Ability to understand and learn software designs.
  • Ability to provide analysis of data using LabView and MATLAB Simulink.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and technical writing skills, including the ability to write and analyze software test results.
  • Self-motivated individuals with a good ability to communicate with internal and external customers and management.

Nice To Haves

  • Highly motivated, perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in an engineering environment and be able to work with established configuration management processes.
  • Prior experience in developing graphics, simulations, critical processor software, and interfacing with submarine electronics.
  • Networking knowledge is desirable.
  • Skills in scripting, along with Real-Time Operating Systems and relational and object-oriented databases are desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Component engineering tasks include development of technical specifications, functional requirements derived from overall system requirements, creation of component test procedures, and review of vendor design deliverables.
  • Troubleshooting and resolution of issues with software and control algorithms for critical power applications.
  • Collaboration with government prime contractors on the development of common power electronic hardware building blocks for future power conversion equipment.
  • Technical analysis using MATLAB, evaluation of vendor hardware and software design reports to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Vendor management and oversight for program and technical product development.
  • Managing successful integration with shipboard arrangements and all interfacing electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Review, adjudication of technical comments, and approval of all vendor reports.
  • Review and concurrence with all interfacing ship design documentation.
  • Preparation of technical correspondence to government customers regarding design development and requirements management.
