About The Position

Apple’s iPhone Hardware Engineering team is seeking an electrical engineer for a multidisciplinary, cross-functional role focused on power conversion system design. The engineer will collaborate with and provide architectural guidance to teams defining system power architecture requirements for new products. The work includes designing, analyzing, and validating power delivery solutions, including DC-DC converters, passives, power distribution networks, and potential electromagnetic interference (EMI). The role also involves collaborating with stakeholders on power architecture, IP specifications and performance, and passive components, as well as working with internal teams and external vendors to develop and productize future generations of power ICs. The engineer will provide design guidelines and support for system architecture, board layout, product bring-up, debugging, validation, and factory builds. Responsibilities also include feasibility studies, design testing and verification, system bring-up, and refinement of design methodologies to optimize performance, reduce size and cost, and minimize EMI. The role may occasionally involve up to 10% travel.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience; the posting also states 7+ years of experience.
  • BS or MS in a relevant field.
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in power electronics design and development, including DC-DC converters, LDOs, and PMICs or PMUs.
  • Knowledge of power, analog, and integrated circuit design fundamentals, process development, and analytical methodology for high-quality designs.
  • Experience designing architectures for complex power conversion systems or power management ICs.
  • Strong laboratory board-level testing, debugging, and validation experience using equipment such as oscilloscopes, electronic loads, and signal generators.
  • Ability to use scientific and systematic methods to troubleshoot and resolve multidisciplinary system issues.
  • Experience with layout planning and routing strategies.
  • Ability to relate electrical performance to physical layout and system-level solutions, including passive components and controls.
  • Experience collaborating across functions.
  • Knowledge and work experience with integrated circuit process technologies, design flows, reliability, and related topics.
  • Experience with PMICs or PMUs.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in a relevant field.
  • Hands-on experience with circuit and electromagnetic simulation tools such as Cadence/Sigrity, ADS/Spice/Spectre, Ansys HFSS/Maxwell/SIWave, and CST.
