A postdoctoral position is available in the Wang Laboratory at Michigan State University to investigate cellular mechanisms underlying memory consolidation and activity-dependent modification. The lab studies the normal functions of neurons, synapses, and circuits in the mammalian brain, as well as mechanisms underlying psychiatric disorders. The position particularly welcomes candidates with expertise in in vivo calcium imaging in behaving animals and mouse models of learning and forgetting, though enthusiastic, curious, and ambitious candidates are also encouraged to apply. The position is funded for one year from the date of hire, with a possible extension contingent on funding renewal and satisfactory performance. Duties require in-person presence in East Lansing, Michigan; remote work is not compatible with the position. Applicants must undergo criminal background checks and professional misconduct reviews. Candidates will be asked to disclose relevant pending investigations, findings, or sanctions and, if they reach the semifinalist stage, authorize contact with current and former employers for the preceding seven years. A professional misconduct history does not automatically exclude a candidate, but the University may decline to hire based on its review. Applicants who do not sign the authorization and release will have their applications deemed incomplete and withdrawn. The Department of Physiology and Division of Pathology have teaching and research missions and offer a collaborative community of scholars, students, and research programs. The department’s mission includes identifying factors and molecules that promote health and disease, understanding mechanisms of disease progression, improving human and animal health through therapeutic discoveries, and training future scientists.
