About The Position

The Therapeutics Initiative at the University of British Columbia seeks a full-time postdoctoral fellow for an initial appointment of 1 year with the possibility of renewal. The postdoctoral fellow will co-lead a CIHR-funded mixed-method study: Safety Advisory Framework for Effective Risk communication (SAFER). The 4-year project is to develop and evaluate an audit-and-feedback intervention to improve the uptake of Health Canada safety advisories for medicines in British Columbia. This project has a co-design approach, involving clinicians and patients/caregivers. This is a 1.0 FTE position within the Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics (Therapeutics Section). The postdoctoral fellow will report to Dr. Colin Dormuth, Associate Professor, Dept of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics and will work closely with grant co-investigators, other faculty members, project managers, and staff. This is a funded postdoctoral position although we welcome applications from fellows who have secured funding prior to applying.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree in a relevant discipline (i.e., Epidemiology, Statistics, Biostatistics, Public Health or a related field)
  • Minimum of two years related experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research processes, systematic reviews, and syntheses
  • Demonstrated skills in qualitative methods and co-design
  • Demonstrated skills in data management
  • Education/training and experience in qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Excellent communication skills, including strong writing, research, and interpersonal skills
  • High-level conceptual, analytical, and critical appraisal skills
  • Demonstrated initiative and willingness to work closely with members of a research team
  • Access, collection, use and disclosure of personal information in accordance with the BC Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (RSBC 1996) and other UBC privacy and security policies
  • Work under strict confidentiality requirements; internal procedures and policies to protect personal information must be followed and adherence to these requirements will be regularly reviewed by the employer

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in pharmacoepidemiology is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Co-leading the SAFER Project (CIHR project grant) co-design and qualitative components
  • Coordinating engagement of co-design panels, research team members, collaborators and other project partners
  • Knowledge synthesis, in particular as related to the co-design workshops and qualitative research activities
  • Participating in mixed methods study design, quality assurance testing, documenting methods, and interpreting results
  • Contributing to literature reviews and syntheses
  • Writing research abstracts, summary reports, and scientific articles, and submitting articles to peer-reviewed journals
  • Presenting study results to the scientific community at national and international conferences
  • Clearly communicating with investigators and other team members to ensure timely completion of the project
  • Identifying and pursuing secondary research projects and research funding
  • Collaborating with other research teams

Benefits

  • The expected pay for this position is $5,416.67 per month.
