About The Position

The Analytics in Medical Sciences (AiMS) Institute and the Personalized Cancer Radiotherapy group at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus, in collaboration with the BC Cancer Agency- Kelowna, are seeking a full-time, three-year Postdoctoral Fellow. This position is focused on Translational Radiation Oncology. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2026. The candidate will report to the Director of the Analytics in Medical Sciences and the Project Lead, Personalized Cancer Radiotherapy. The role involves designing and conducting experiments to identify biomarkers of radiation response in clinical or preclinical tissue, recording and analyzing experimental data, and developing integrative models of radiation response using genotype and biomarker data. The position also requires facilitating data transfer and collaboration, ensuring compliance with data privacy and regulatory protocols, and assisting in the training and supervision of graduate students or research assistants. Adherence to safety protocols, ethics, privacy, and data security requirements is mandatory. The fellow will interpret and communicate results, and prepare presentations, abstracts, manuscripts, and reports.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in medical physics, chemistry, bioinformatics, computational cancer biology/genetics or a related field, obtained within the last 5 years by the time of the appointment start date or an M.D. within 10 years.
  • Proficiency in Python, R, and ML libraries such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment in analyzing and evaluating data.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with genotype, Raman spectroscopy and multi-modal data integration is highly desirable.
  • Experience with population-level administrative databases and data transfer protocols.
  • Experience with ethics approval protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and completes experiments to identify biomarkers of radiation response in clinical or preclinical tissue.
  • Records and analyzes experimental data accurately and efficiently, maintaining detailed records and documentation.
  • Develops integrative models of radiation response through the combination of genotype and biomarker data (Raman, blood marker etc.).
  • Facilitates processes for data transfer and collaboration by identifying relevant data sources, developing pipelines and defining data transfer, storage, sharing, and ensuring that data privacy and regulatory protocols are enacted and followed, including the development of data sharing procedures and protocols between BC Cancer and AiMS.
  • Assists in the training and supervision of graduate students and/or research assistants.
  • Adheres to safety protocols and guidelines at all times, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Ensures compliance with ethics, privacy, and data security requirements.
  • Interprets and communicates results to the research team and project partners.
  • Prepares presentations, abstracts, manuscripts, and reports in collaboration with the research team.
