The Research Postdoctoral Fellow is a research trainee focused on enhancing and developing research competencies in laboratory or clinical research settings. This role may engage in various activities, assisting faculty in research under the guidance of a principal investigator or CNRI Center Director. Depending on the scientific specialty and research project needs, the fellow may participate directly in designing and conducting experiments, requiring technical knowledge in areas such as molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, genetics, physiology, animal science, epidemiology, health services research, clinical research, trial design, and human subjects protection. Based on experience, the fellow may train staff, graduate students, and others in experimental procedures and study execution, exercise general supervision in the workspace, and assist with data management and analysis. The individual will also be responsible for assisting the principal investigator in planning and executing research projects, grant applications, and publications. They may also assist in managing resource allocations and day-to-day research project activities, including purchasing, oversight of laboratory animals, radioactivity, biosafety issues, human subjects enrollment and protection, and regulatory reporting. Additionally, the fellow may guide or lead the work of peers, technicians, or other research support staff to achieve specific assignments or complete complex projects.
