About The Position

The Biomedical Imaging and Instrumentation Lab in Boston College’s Department of Engineering, led by Prof. Bryan Ranger, is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for a multi-site NIH R01-funded project. The project is developing AI-enabled portable ultrasound methods to assess body composition and growth in preterm infants. The fellow will lead analytic and machine learning work in a longitudinal study following preterm infants from birth through 24 months, at the intersection of AI/ML, medical imaging, and clinical neonatal research. The role involves developing predictive models that integrate ultrasound imaging with clinical and maternal data, in collaboration with investigators at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital, Boston College’s Connell School of Nursing, and Boston College biostatisticians. The fellow will be co-mentored by Dr. Bryan Ranger and Dr. Yuan Yuan of Boston College Computer Science. The position includes opportunities to shape analytic strategy, mentor students, lead research and publications, attend conferences, and gain experience with proposal writing and grant management. This is a full-time, one-year temporary appointment, renewable for additional years based on performance and funding availability. The position is onsite and is listed as 35 hours per week. Boston College hopes to fill it as soon as possible but is flexible about the specific start date.
