The Alenghat Lab seeks a motivated, creative postdoctoral scientist interested in epigenetics, host-microbe interactions, and the intestine. The lab studies how interactions with the microbiota and molecular pathways affect intestinal microbes’ impact on mucosal and metabolic homeostasis and chronic diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease. Recent Ph.D. candidates with relevant scientific interests and expertise are encouraged to apply. The fellow will develop the critical thinking, data analysis, experimental design, specific-aim development, and long-term planning skills needed to become an independent scientist. The role includes designing, conducting, documenting, and analyzing laboratory experiments; improving methods and evaluating techniques; checking protocol and assay accuracy and reproducibility; troubleshooting results and equipment; discussing findings with faculty; and presenting and writing scientific work. Responsibilities increase over time and include mentoring research staff and fiscal administration. The fellow will maintain knowledge of the field, engage in intellectual discussions and career-development feedback, attend required institutional training, and comply with applicable policies and procedures.
