About The Position

The Baylor Mathematics Department is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on an NSF-funded project focused on the Irksome project, a high-level, Firedrake-based software package for time-stepping finite element discretizations of partial differential equations. The postdoctoral researcher will work with the principal investigator, Dr Robert Kirby, and a team of students seeking to develop new features within Irksome. This assignment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in applied mathematics, computer/computational science, or a related discipline
  • Knowledge of finite element methods and scientific computing

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with high-level finite element packages such as FEniCS or Firedrake

Responsibilities

  • Develop features within Irksome
  • Develop and optimize advanced solvers
  • Apply Irksome to challenging problems
  • Provide assistance with the preparation of project-related reports, manuscripts and presentations
  • Develop and implement research quality control procedures
  • Analyze data and prepare reports; develop recommendations based on results
  • Verify the accuracy and validity of data
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission
  • Ability to comply with University policies
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
