The Department of Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering at West Virginia University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Materials Science and Engineering. The research focuses on developing advanced methods for processing solid-oxide fuel and electrolysis cells (SOFC/SOECs). The position is grant-funded, with the initial project phase ending August 31, 2027. Continuation into subsequent project phases is expected but depends on future federal funding. The fellow will conduct research on SOFC/SOEC forming and sintering processes and perform electrochemical testing. The role also involves literature review, selecting and adapting research methods, carrying out laboratory and field experiments, overseeing research facilities and personnel, assisting with funding acquisition, and preparing reports and research findings for presentations and scientific publications as directed. The position is with WVU’s Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering Department in the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources. Applicants must hold an earned doctorate by the time of appointment in a relevant discipline and have expertise in ceramic-material synthesis and characterization, plus expertise in at least one specified area related to oxide powders and nanomaterials, ceramic processing, or electrical/electrochemical testing.
