Postdoctoral Fellow, Computational Biology in Cancer – Chan Lab at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center•New York, NY
•$72,000 - $87,000

About The Position

The Chan Lab in the Human Oncogenesis & Pathogenesis Program at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center seeks a highly motivated computational postdoctoral fellow to study mechanisms and therapeutic implications of tumor cell plasticity. The translational computational oncology lab integrates single-cell and spatial genomics, cell-free DNA profiling, and machine learning to understand tumor evolution under therapeutic and microenvironmental pressures. The team uses deeply annotated patient cohorts with longitudinal sampling alongside functional preclinical models to discover and validate mechanisms of tumor evolution. A central research focus is lineage plasticity, in which cancer cells transition between phenotypic states, contributing to metastasis, immune evasion, and drug resistance. Research directions include defining transcriptional and epigenetic programs driving lineage plasticity across solid-tumor states; investigating lineage switching in hematologic malignancies, including Richter’s transformation and myelofibrosis; mapping immune and treatment-induced pressures that shape cell-fate decisions across space and time; and developing predictive computational models of lineage transformation and therapeutic resistance through multimodal data integration. The fellow will develop and apply computational methods, interpret biological findings, assist with or lead manuscript writing, and participate in work-in-progress sessions, lab meetings, and other academic activities. The position offers work with deeply annotated patient cohorts, longitudinal samples, and cutting-edge experimental systems in a collaborative environment. Applicants should bring creativity, intellectual curiosity, a strong drive to uncover mechanisms, and motivation to translate discoveries into improved patient care. Applicants should submit a cover letter, a brief statement of prior research experience and research interests, a CV, and contact information for three references. Questions may be directed to Dr. Joseph M. Chan, MD, PhD, at [email protected].
