About The Position

The Jin Laboratory at the MaineHealth Institute for Research in Scarborough, Maine, seeks a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to develop robust, interpretable, and uncertainty-aware AI systems for healthcare and biological discovery. The lab works at the intersection of artificial intelligence, clinical research, and biology, with the aim of improving clinical decision-making, uncovering biological mechanisms of disease, and translating tools into real-world patient care. Its location within MaineHealth provides access to clinical data and opportunities to evaluate AI tools in clinical settings. The lab collaborates with researchers and clinicians at MaineHealth and partner institutions. Under the guidance of Principal Investigator Dr. Qingchu Jin, the Fellow will lead and contribute to clinically and biologically motivated research projects. Current work uses large biomedical datasets, including longitudinal electronic health records, unstructured clinical notes, and multi-omics data. Research directions include real-time risk prediction after cardiac surgery, multi-omics analysis of childhood growth trajectories, causal machine learning and large language models for severe hyponatremia treatment, and methods for quantifying uncertainty in clinical AI. The Fellow is encouraged to develop research ideas and apply for postdoctoral fellowships and career development grants. Computational resources include local GPU clusters and Amazon Web Services. The position includes a mentored research training experience, with access to seminars, responsible conduct of research programming, professional development support, individual development plans, and annual reviews. Fellows are expected to present and publish research findings and are encouraged and supported in applying for fellowship support or early-career grants. The work location is MaineHealth’s research headquarters in Scarborough, Maine.
