About The Position

This Post-Doctoral Fellow position in Physics and Astronomy focuses on Laser Optics. The role involves conducting research using laser systems to study light-matter interactions, with a specific project aimed at increasing the spatial and temporal contrast of a laser for advanced measurements. The fellow will also assist faculty in mentoring students and be responsible for writing scientific publications and presenting research findings at meetings. The position requires relocation to Utah and adherence to the university's mission and honor code.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, or Optics completed by the start date.
  • Prior physics-related research experience.
  • Strong theoretical foundation in physics, with preference for electrodynamics and light propagation.
  • Ability to relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Use a laser system and other equipment to study light-matter interactions.
  • Lead a project to increase the spatial and temporal contrast of the laser to enable measurement of coherence effects in nonlinear Thomson scattering or other measurements.
  • Assist faculty in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students on laser and optics-related projects.
  • Write scientific publications.
  • Present research findings at meetings.
