About The Position

The Medina Lab at Emory University is seeking a motivated and creative Postdoctoral Fellow to study the molecular biology of Influenza viruses. The research focuses on understanding viral pathogenesis and host responses using molecular, cellular, and systems biology approaches. The lab is part of the Pathology Advanced Translational Research Unit (PATRU) in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and the Emory Vaccine Center at the Emory University School of Medicine, offering access to state-of-the-art facilities and interdisciplinary collaboration opportunities in virology, immunology, and translational science. The lab is particularly interested in candidates who are enthusiastic about developing independence while contributing to a collaborative research environment. While prior experience in all listed areas is not required, applicants should have a strong foundation in at least one relevant discipline and a willingness to learn new techniques.

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field.
  • Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues.
  • Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Genetics, or a related field.
  • Experience in Molecular virology or virus-host interactions
  • Experience in Cell culture and molecular cloning techniques
  • Experience in Reverse genetics systems
  • Experience in Animal models of infection
  • Experience in High-containment (BSL-3) laboratory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct research projects, with increasing independence over time
  • Contribute to the development of new ideas and experimental approaches
  • Analyze data and prepare manuscripts for publication
  • Present research findings in lab meetings and scientific conferences
  • Participate in a collaborative lab environment and may assist in mentoring junior trainees
