About The Position

The Fani Laboratory is seeking a Post-doctoral Fellow with experience in clinical neuroscience research methods including functional and/or structural MRI, neuromodulation, behavioral and clinical data collection and analysis. The ideal applicant will be equipped to use these methods to contribute to current projects and explore their own research questions as well. The fellow will assist with neuromodulation, neuroimaging and psychophysiology data acquisition and analysis. With the support of the PI, collaborators and research staff, the fellow will also help supervise trainees in the laboratory and assist with dissemination of data through manuscripts and presentations. The fellow will work with an interdisciplinary team of clinical psychologists, basic neuroscientists, and biomedical imaging experts. They will have access to state-of-the-art neuroimaging facilities at Emory (Center for Systems Imaging) as well as the Center for Advanced Brain Imaging and related resources. Those with a clinical background will have the opportunity to obtain clinical hours for licensure under supervision of the lab PI and participate in the clinical post-doctoral fellowship seminar at Emory. The lab PI, Dr. Negar Fani, supports trainees from a broad range of backgrounds. This role helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.

Requirements

  • Experience in clinical neuroscience research methods including functional and/or structural MRI, neuromodulation, behavioral and clinical data collection and analysis
  • Equipped to use these methods to contribute to current projects and explore their own research questions
  • Ph.D. in psychology, neuroscience, biomedical engineering or related field
  • Experience with fMRI data analysis and related programming
  • A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field
  • Excellent scientific writing ability
  • Strong oral communication skills
  • The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues

Responsibilities

  • Assist with neuromodulation, physiology and MRI data acquisition and analysis
  • Assist with supervision of trainees and their interactions with study methods and data
  • Contribute substantively to the preparation of manuscripts via literature review, data analysis and interpretation
  • Communicate effectively with investigators, staff, and participants
  • Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career
  • Designs and evaluates experiments
  • Develops new ideas that promote current research
  • Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator
  • May be responsible for operation of specific equipment
  • May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff
