About The Position
Opening for a Post-Doctoral Researcher in Water Resources Engineering – Connectivity-based Tools to Prioritize the Location of Stormwater Control Measures and Capture Urbanization Effects on Urban Basin Response. This is a 2-year position (based on expected funding availability and performance) within the Research Group of Dr. Claudio I. Meier at the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering, University of Memphis. The research focuses on studying the connectivity of developed land patches and their effects on the hydrologic response of urban watersheds.
Requirements
- Ph.D. (or have successfully defended their dissertation prior to the start date) with a background in Civil Engineering or Hydrology
- Knowledge of urban hydrology
- Knowledge of surface-runoff dynamics
- Knowledge of established hydrologic connectivity metrics
- Advanced skills in geocoding
- Advanced skills in GIS
- Advanced skills in raster analysis/processing
- Advanced skills in the management of large geospatial datasets
- Strong written and spoken English skills
Nice To Haves
- Familiarity with optimization techniques
- Familiarity with accelerated computing
Responsibilities
- Work on improving predictive methods for urban peak flows
- Contribute to the development of decision-support strategies for optimizing the placement of stormwater control measures
- Translate the developed tools into software
- Provide tutoring sessions for the use of the software
- Co-advise graduate students
- Collaborate with writing research manuscripts and research proposals
